History
The agency was founded by Philippe Mombellet, a lighting designer for live performances with numerous dance, theater and opera companies. After 20 years of lighting shows in France and abroad, he decided to create Ponctuelle in 1998 to develop the application of his lighting design know-how to architectural lighting. He quickly surrounded himself with a team of professionals from the architectural and entertainment worlds.
1998-2000
Right from the start of the newly-created company, Philippe Mombellet continued to create lighting for large-scale opera productions. Philippe Mombellet created the lighting for “Don Carlos” for the Opéra de Massy and Dijon, “La Bohème” and ‘Capriccio’ for the Opéra de Nantes, and “Boris Godounov” for the Tallinn Opera.
Then came the first touring exhibitions in collaboration with IRSN, and the opportunity to work on international events such as the Eden Pavilion at Expo 02 in Switzerland.
2005
A pivotal period begins, marking a significant diversification of projects. Ponctuelle collaborates on exhibition projects with various scenographers, while also becoming involved in a variety of fields, including fashion shows, art installations, events and office fit-outs, notably for the Chapelle Sainte-Anne.
A rewarding first collaboration in architecture for the Richemont group, culminating in the lighting design for the first sales space..
2008
The company celebrates its 10th anniversary, marking a period of expansion and innovation. It takes part in its first International Fine Watchmaking Exhibition (SIHH) in Geneva. A major technological breakthrough was the first 100% LED development with the C spot in collaboration with the manufacturer Loupi.
This was followed by participation in exceptional projects for the Fondation Cartier with renowned artists such as David Lynch, Alessandro Mendini and Béatrice Milhazes. This period was punctuated by work on fashion shows, exhibitions and retail spaces. A notable project was the French pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo.
2012
The agency takes part in emblematic cultural and commercial projects, such as the Centre d’interprétation/musée d’Alésia, the Air France lounge at Roissy, the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire de Saint-Denis and the Librairie de l’Opéra Garnier. At the same time, it created a 100% LED lighting charter for Richemont and produced its first retail space for Chanel.
2015
Ponctuelle is proud to have taken part in a major project with the Clermont-Ferrand architectural firm Fabre-Speller: the replica of the Chauvet cave.
On the technological front, the agency is leading the development of a 100% LED glass lens with manufacturer Ansorg.
Collaborations extend to hotel projects, including the Amastan Hotel in Paris, and international events such as Dior Baselworld and Watch and Wonders in Hong Kong.
It continues to contribute to the lighting of luxury boutiques such as Lalique Rue de la Paix, Repetto, IWC, Panerai, Piaget, Montblanc and prestigious museums, including the Musée de l’Armée for the “Chevaliers et Bombardes” exhibition / the Grand Palais for the “Gauguin” exhibition, the Château de Fontainebleau for the “PIE VII face à Napoléon” exhibition, the Musée des Beaux Arts d’Arras for the ‘Napoléon’ exhibition, and the Musée de la Marine for the “Dans Les Mailles du filet” exhibition. “
2018
The company celebrates its 20th anniversary, consolidating its position in the sector. Philippe Mombellet continues to create lighting for the “Madame Butterfly” show at the Opéra de Marseille.
Ponctuelle participates in the development of the Cobra LED linear with manufacturer Formalighting.
She creates the lighting design for the Musée de la Manufacture de Jaeger-LeCoultre and signs her first facade projects in New York and Hong Kong, as well as prestigious hotel projects such as the Hôtel Le Collectionneur and the Suites de l’Hôtel Meurice in Paris.
This was a prolific period for museum lighting, with the “Jean Cotelle” exhibition at the Château de Versailles, and the illumination of the Grande Galerie at the Musée de l’air et de l’espace in Le Bourget (93)
2020
At the Théâtre de Nice: lighting design for the production of The Magic Flute.
Ponctuelle continues to take part in hotel projects, such as the Hôtel Mermoz in Paris, as well as in the fitting out of high-end offices: Moët Hennessy at Le Bon Marché and AXA offices in Paris.
It continues to develop products in collaboration with manufacturers: Punch Line and Colosseo LED with Formalighting.
At the same time, collaborations with luxury brands are intensifying, with projects for Chanel, Messika, Arije and Cartier retail spaces.
She began work on the Carré Janson museum lighting project in Tournai with the Lille-based architecture firm TANK.
2022
The first sales areas for new houses arrive: Saint Laurent and Tiffany. The agency continues to work on a wide variety of projects, including the D LAB factory in Vichy and the Hotel Le Marriott in Cannes with the Moatti-Rivière architectural firm.
The development of the Teatro LED spotlight with Formalighting marks a new technological advance
Two exhibition highlights are nearing completion: “Chefs d’œuvres retrouvés” at the Château de Versailles and “Art déco/France-Amérique du Nord” at the Cité de l’Architecture.
2024
A new collaboration with a new prestige brand: the first Louis Vuitton sales space.
L’Oréal wants to renovate its headquarters and create “L’Académie de Coiffure” on rue Royale in Paris. The Moatti-Rivière architectural firm creates a masterpiece with “Le Visionnaire Espace François Dalle”; Ponctuelle is entrusted with the lighting design.
The company continues to work actively on sales space projects for iconic brands.
